History
The
Foundation was founded in 1992 by a group of health care professionals from Sligo
General Hospital and its catchment area and also prominent lay people from the
community. It was set up as a registered charity organisation and funded by
covenants.
In its early
years The Foundation established itself in a collaborative relationship with Sligo
General Hospital. Much effort was devoted
to working with the Hospital to provide a Centre containing library and research
and education facilities.
In recent years, the Foundation
has developed the following core activities:

- Research Grants for local
research
- Research Poster Design and
Printing
- Annual Research Conference
- Research Ethics Committee
administration
- Medical lectures
- Open Public Meetings
