The Foundation
works to support and encourage research into health care through the following
initiatives:
Research
Advisory Committee
This
Committee, a subcommittee of the Research & Education Foundation Board, acts
to support and stimulate research activity in Sligo General Hospital and its
catchment area. The Committee also seeks to establish and maintain collaborative
links with other health care and third level institutions.
Grants
The
Foundation gives research grants to local researchers. The grants are
advertised on the Foundation web-site. The review is undertaken by independent
reviewers.
Research
Conference
Since
December 2000, the Annual Multidisciplinary Research Conference at Sligo
General Hospital has been the main research event of the year in the Hospital. It
is organised by the Foundation. Click here

Baseline
study of Research Experience and Interests
The
Foundation carried out a study on research experience and interests of all
health care professionals in the Sligo General Hospital catchment area in 1999.

A follow-up study "Research

published in February 2004.

Research Ethics Committee
Sligo General Hospital
Research Ethics Committee is supported and administered
by the Foundation.
Research Skills Workshops
The Foundation organises
research skills workshops and training sessions.
The Core skills curriculum organised by the Postgraduate Training Team include a
number of research related lectures.
Research
Infrastructure
The
Foundation has contributed to setting up the Research & Education Centre in
the hospital. The Centre serves to support research
activity in the region. Information services, IT Facilities, meeting rooms etc.
are available for all health care professionals and people from the community.
Foundation has carried out a study on behalf of the hospital to
identify the future needs for a research facility subsuming present provisions (click
here to download). It is promoting the realisation of a 2000 m2
Clinical Services Support Building incorporating dedicated research facilities.
Research
Strategy
The
Foundation has facilitated the formulation of a research strategy for the hospital. The strategy
was adopted by the Hospital Management Committee in September 2002. It forms the framework of future
developments and initiatives in the area of health care research. Click
